Removing MATE-Panel dock icon from Plank?

Was previously using GNOME as my desktop environment with Plank as my dock. Swapped to MATE because it is less resource intensive. Problem is that now the default mate-panels that appear at the top and bottom of the screen have an icon on the Plank dock and can be closed and minimized from it. There is no entry saved in ~/.config/plank/dock1/launchers and I can't "pull" it off either. Upon right-click the icon on the dock shows a "close" option which I have yet to click but I expect it would close my mate-panels and I would have to refresh the desktop to make them reappear.

One solution that I'd accept is forcing plank to not display certain icons on the dock regardless of whether or not those applications are actually open. EX: Remove Firefox icon from Plank -> Open Firefox browser -> Plank doesn't show firefox icon in the dock.

Delay the start of plank by adding an auto start delay to the config file.

.config/autostart/plank.desktop

X-MATE-Autostart-Delay=5
