Fedora Server 25 Gui No Response

asked 2017-05-16 21:22:06 -0500

So i have Fedora 25 server x86_64 install and installed Fedora workstation group so i can have a gui. (I am new to Fedora and i am tring to learn as much as i can so that i can pass a test.) When i reboot my server the system comes up with the Fedora Login but no mouse no anything. I can't even use the keyboard. But if i switch to Root and login then start x it works well. Why is that? how do i fix it so that way it works like a regular workstation and allow regular user to login on the system? I have changed some settings following a blog but that didn't work and i don't want to allow any and everyone in the server because of plans that i have for it later. Can someone please help. Thanks.

so you want to be able to log-in on the server installation using the GUI version? the fedora server version does not install a GUI by default at all. Only the workstation does. Do you want to use the GNOME or KDE desktop environment?

Sorry i guess i was not clear enough in my question. I have Fedora 25 server installed. I already installed a GUI by running dnf -y group install "Fedora Workstation" which is Gnome3 environment. I then changed the target to graphic.target as the default for the system. Rebooted the server, and then it goes kinda clunky. The mouse doesn't show on the screen the characters show up 10s after being pressed. But if i switch to ttyl2 and log in as root. type startx everything works as it should. I am wanting to get the GUI to work at bootup for the user so i dont have to switch to TTYL2 first.
