Today I tried to upgrade from F14-LXDE to F16-LXDE; I downloaded the iso file -version of Nov last year- and put it on USB stick. I booted from the USB stick and f16-LXDE was running on my netbook ACER Aspire One with 512MB internal memory and 8GB SSD.Then I wanted it to install on my 27GB USB mini harddrive; same procedure I did 2010 with fedora 14. By such an installation I could run fedora 14 as my present working system from SSD and for tests and to compare fedora 16 from the USB mini harddrive. However, when I clicked the hardrive installation I got a message saying "in order to install fedora 16 you need at least 726MB memory but you have only 512". So much to the light weight of fedora 16-LXDE or are there options to work with <512 MB memory?.

Lightweight in this case refers to runtime resource usage of the desktop environment. The installer is a entirely separate environment. Although there are hacks to workaround this, it is not reliable. The good news is that the problem is fixed for the next release
