16.6 MB Fedora Media Writer for Windows

Why does it mess up my USB key, so that I can NOT FORMAT it again, when using Windows-7 I want to reformat my USB back to a usable state using Windows (NOT using gParted) How do I do it ?

Why the need for Fedora Media Writer ? Why can't I use Rufus, UneBootin etc whre you can easily re-use the USB.

From https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/HowtocreateanduseLiveUSB

After writing, your USB stick will have a changed partition layout and some systems may report it to be about 10MB large. To return your USB stick to its factory configuration, insert the drive again while Fedora Media Writer is running. The app provides you with an option to restore to the factory layout. This layout includes a single VFAT partition.

You may try to use UneBootin or similar other methods to create the ufs boot media, It could work, especially in non-UEFI mode. Don't, however, switch from UEFI to non-UEFI mode if you intend to double boot with windows.

From the same webpage:

Reliability not assured
Following each release, Fedora support volunteers receive reports of problems with installation images created by UNetbootin. Using the most recent version of UNetbootin available has been known to improve results. UNetbootin may work in some cases but not others - for instance, it will likely create a stick that is bootable in BIOS mode, but not UEFI mode. Fedora cannot guarantee support for UNetbootin-written images.

It might be a good idea to buy a new 2 gig USB stick and just keep the boot image after installation. This can be handy if you would ever need to repair a non-bootable linux system.
