While watching video (bbc ipayer, youtube) on Chrome or Opera, my system would freeze after ~30 min of watching with a sound of 1 second length kept repeating. I can't do anything but hard reboot.

My system details are as follows:

  • Thinkpad t470p
  • Fedora 26 installed with the default Gnome desktop
  • Intel Core i7-7700HQ Processor Graphics:
  • Intel HD Graphics
  • NVIDIA GeForce 940MX 2GB GDRR5

I didn't install any driver or customised anything. This is a vanilla installation. Everything seems to work fine apart from this issue.

lspci output:

➜ ~ /sbin/lspci | grep -e VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Device 591b (rev 04)
➜ ~ /sbin/lspci | grep -e 3D
02:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM108M [GeForce 940MX] (rev a2)

I think You can try install official nvidia drivers for Your graphic card.

BUT!

when I install the newest (380.xxx) proprietary drivers I can`t use HDMI audio output.

This issue affects many different distributions, I delete the newest driver from nvidia and install old version (340.104).

Sound is working with HDMI output and I think frezzes do not happen anymore. But I do this in manjaro - not fedora.

It is worth a try.

I WILL BE DOWNVOTING ALL 4 QUESTIONS, WHERE YOU COPY AND PASTE THIS ANSWER, ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU STATE YOU ARE USING MANJARO AND NOT FEDORA. HOW DOES THIS HELP SOMEONE USING FEDORA?

The steps needed to install drivers on different distros are not going to be the same, so by not providing more information, you are not really helping.
