What is the easiest and quickest way to configure Samba on Fedora 27 server? I just want it to be a domain controller and have shares to Windows, Macs machines. Can someone point me in the right direction? I only have command line (text) access both direct login & via cockpit, unable to do this with GUI interface.

Maybe I just need to install workstation instead. Last time done this was with Fedora 13.

Thanks in advance for your help

Regards, Mike

You should install samba and set your firewall to allow samba to work.

sudo dnf install samba

firewall-cmd --add-service=samba

Will do the basics, to share a folder you must edit /etc/samba/smb.conf and add configurations to share it there something like

[sharename]
comment = Insert a comment here
path = /home/share/
valid users = tfox carole
writable = yes
create mask = 0765

You could learn all steps looking at the documentation here
