How do I add xfce4 to my Linux login

asked 2018-05-27 14:00:32 -0500

I installed Fedora 28 with xfce4. I start Xfce4 with the startx command in a terminal window when logged in as root. How do I make xfce4 the default for all users logging into this server?

The behavior for root will be the same for any user logging in, as long as they do not have a configuration file at ~/.xinitrc or similar. you should also be able to start xfce4 with "xinit startxfce4"

You could install a window manager

sudo dnf install lightdm

then initialize it

systemctl start lightdm

To make it work permanently

systemctl enable lightdm

if you have you machine on init multi user set it to graphic target

systemctl isolate graphical.target

Good luck

If you want graphical login on next reboot:

systemctl set-default graphical.target
