Hi everybody.

I'm new to Fedora, coming from Ubuntu, and wanna to have Dropbox daemon working in order to sync my files/folders bidirectionally between my local desktop and the Dropbox server linked to my Dropbox account.

I just downloaded the dropbox from here: https://www.dropbox.com/download?dl=p...64.rpm; then installed from terminal with sudo rpm -Uvh nautilus-dropbox-2015.10.28-1.fedora.x8664.rpm.

It seems to be installed just fine, but when I run it, either by GUI or using dropbox start -i (it keep saying "Dropbox is not installed, please run with the -i option"), it keep downloading the daemon until 97% and just get stuck in there.

I also tried to remove it, reboot the system and re-install it from different sources, such as older versions and even the from the default repository (through sudo dnf install dropbox), but nothing seems to work. I also tried to search for a solution by myself before asking here, but nothing I read and tried worked so far.

My system is (as output by "lsb_release -a"):

LSB Version: :core-4.1-amd64:core-4.1-noarch

Distributor ID: Fedora

Description: Fedora release 28 (Twenty Eight)

Release: 28

Codename: TwentyEight

Thanks in advance for your help.

Are there any logfiles? Is there a verbose output option?

The version indicates that this dropbox package hasn't been updated in 3 years. You may want to compile the package from source and have a look at the warnings or errors it generates during compilation (and fix them). You also may want to run the application in a debugger.

Hi nisankh.

Thank you for your inputs, but unfortunately, still nothing seems to work here. :(

No matter the way I installed it, still get the messages: "Dropbox needs to be installed; run dropbox start -i", and then it get stuck on the "Unpacking dropbox... 97%"...

Don't know if worth to mention that, during the installation, I get a message: Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "murrine"; but seems it was a warning (not an error), ignore it. Also, it seems to be strictly related to Debian-based systems, according my researches. Couldn't manage to get rid of that.

Hi nisankh. I managed to get gtk2-engines gtk-murrine-engine installed, but gtk-equinox-engine. Even if I run the dropbox from terminal (dropbox start), it says "Dropbox not installed, please run dropbox start -i". And when I run the last, is says "done" after a while, but if I issue a "dropbox status", I getDropbox isn't running!". By issuing a "dropbox start", I got a "The Dropbox daemon is not installed! Run "dropbox start -i" to install the daemon" again... Seems to be some incompatibility between Dropbox and some other package installed in my specific instance of Fedora, but got no clues.

I managed to install gtk-equinox-engine after reading https://forums.fedoraforum.org/showth...: 1. sudo dnf install "http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/repos..." 2. sudo dnf install gtk-equinox-engine So, now gtk2-engines gtk-murrine-engine gtk-equinox-engine are installed. But, still, get the "The Dropbox daemon is not installed! Run "dropbox start -i" to install the daemon". And, once more, when issue the "dropbox start -i", got no errors but not working either. :(

The easiest is to install Dropbox as a flatpak from flathub.org:

https://flathub.org/apps/details/com....

 flatpak install flathub com.dropbox.Client

Dropbox is available in Rpmfusion or UnitedRPMs ; Dropbox is tested in those repositories..

dnf -y install nautilus-dropbox

Hi davidva. I tried "dnf -y install nautilus-dropbox", but still not working. After that, even if I run the dropbox from terminal (dropbox start), it says "Dropbox not installed, please run dropbox start -i".

For Fedora 28, the package is called dropbox. dnf install -y dropbox

Since I'm convinced that the problem is due to some incompatibility between my specific instance/installation of Fedora Workstation 28 and some other app I may installed, I decided to give up the troubleshooting and rather use Dropbox via Docker.

Thank you to janeczkufor creating a image and made it available to us here: https://hub.docker.com/r/janeczku/dro.... I must say that it worked like a charm!

Thanks anyway to Fedora community for the trials.

docker seems to be more complicated than just using a flatpak build from flathub.org
