Hi, I have updated some packages, but i suppose that the only relevant ones are: cups-1 from 2.2.6-14 to 2.2.6-16 and ghostscript from 9.23-1 to 9.23-5. now i'm unable to print on my HP LJ m426dw , that worked perfectly before. I get error on cups like "filter error" or i print a blank page with only one row: "** Error reading a content stream. this page may be incomplete." or "Unsupported Personality: UNKNOWN" . To note that: The printer is OK, i can print from other machines on the lan with different o.s.es, i can use hplip or connect directly to the printer web interface . I've tried to downgrade but it seems that it doesn't help. Thank you in advance for any help

Mine has the same problem, I erase all printer to go in setting, but the filter failed problem is still there, My friend suggest me a blog of Printer is in an error state that helps me in this but after complete installation of the program the printer automatically reboots again and again.

Hi, I just worked thru problems with another HP LaserJet printer that suddenly started failing with the "filter failed" issue. I was blaming HPLip and CUPS. Removed, rebooted and reinstalled without success.

Carefully figure out what program(s) trigger the "filter failed" error. For me, the only program that failed printing was FireFox. Given some of the recent drastic changes in FireFox, I decided to do the FireFox refresh steps described in FireFox help. Keep in mind the refresh steps mess with your preferences and extensions in FireFox so you will have to do some resetting (like reinstalling ABP ad blocker for me). Delete the failed print jobs and try printing again. It worked for me.

Always the same story with some HP printers. I would suggest to erase all installed printers in settings, switch the printer off by pulling the power chord, and eventually reinstall the printer. Maybe you should repeat the routine 2 or 3 times before the magic occurs and your printer returns online.

I suggest to remove all cups and HPLip packages and reinstall, after a reboot, the mentioned packages.
