I have problem with playing DVDs and CDs in Fedora 27

asked 2018-10-08 04:33:48 -0500

Hi, when I insert a DVD or CD, my computer with fedora 27 knows about it and shows me what is in it. I have three different media players and none of them cannot play the disk. What is the problem and how can i solve it?

I will be glad if you can help me.

(PS: Sorry for my english, I am not a native english speaker)

Since we do not know what the content of the DVD is we cannot tell you what it could be, how ever can you give us the name of the media players? and by the way did you install

Are they audio, video, or data CD/DVD?

DVDs are original with movies, and CDs are audio. From media players I have Exaile, Parole and VLC. And I think that I didn't install

If it is an audio/video disk, please have a look at . For DVDs, make sure you have installed libdvdcss.

You have to install the appropriate codecs too, also libdvdcss. I am using rpmfusion-free.., rmpfusion-nonfree.., rpmfusion-free-tainted.. and much of the gstreamer1-codecs. You can find it all in dnfdragora after activating the above mentioned repositories too. I had the same issues too and after installing the required audio- and video codecs I am able to play all my desired optical medias too. I hope it helps you.

Please install free and nonfree after that you need to install codecs and players, will recommend to install vlc player from rpmfusion which should install all nonfree codecs, something that always works for me is to install mplayer which have all video and audio codecs as dependencies that should take care of it. Mplayer will allow to load videos from the command line including DVD.

Good Luck, hope this help.
