Hi,

I was away for a long time and didn't update until last week. All of a sudden my fan is racing up and down. I cannot pinpoint it to any process or update. And I can't tell whether it's the gpu fan or cpu fan. gpu temp is stable and normal.

top does not show any high cpu utilization. I was running nvidia 396.45 and updated to nvidia 396.54. No change.

I'll copy it and paste it here:

"basic hardware question: is your fan free from dust and is the airflow to and from the fan unfettered possible? If not clean your chassis and the fan and so on, that will make things better."

The answer is yes, the laptop was fairly new. It was clean, no dust, and airflow was not blocked.

Thanks, I know I should look into that but I don't think it's the problem.
