When I left the last line active, my HP laptop went emergency boot. I had to comment it out to continue.

How do I read/write to an ntfs slice?

did you install ntfsprogs ntfs-3g? , those are tools and kernel module you need to in order to read and write ntfs, if you have not them installed, install them and then do sudo mount -a so you can test if the ntfs drive is mounted with out rebooting or losing access to your system.

Good Luck
