Fedora 28 Libre Office pdf export problem [closed]

I updated to Fedora 28 and a new version of Libre Office was automaticaly installed. When exporting the odt editor file to pdf, files the previously exported correctly now halt with a message about transparent objects being converted to images. The result is that files that formerly exported as 2 Mb pdf files are now being exported as 15 - 20 Mb files.

This was a known problem in Libre Office in 2013 and again in 2015 and has been resolved but seems to be still in the Fedora version. Version is build 6.0.6.2-3fc28.

Is there a workaround for this or do I have to download Libre Office and compile it myself? The current situation is not workable.

Hi, does it happen with PDF/A-1a mode disabled? If so, you can report it on https://bugzilla.redhat.com/ with links to old bugs and a sample file.

You might also try to reproduce this bug on latest LibreOffice version e.g. using flatpak on your current system (https://flathub.org/apps/details/org....) or live booting updated Fedora 29 image (https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/...).

Try to downgrade the package, if it's on latest version

dnf downgrade libreoffice*

provided previous version is still in the repositories.

Thanks. I just tried that and apparently the problem arsies earlier than the previous version of libreoffice. After the downgrade to 6.0.3.2-1fc28 the error is still occuring and the huge files are still a problem. The previous version that I had was on Fedora 27 and when I upgraded on Tuesday to Fedora 28 this problem appeared. Thanks for the response though.

File a bug to bugzilla, and check out libreoffice discussion as well. It seems that from time to time this problems reappers with particular files.

Thank you. I had already checked with libreoffice's wiki but I was having problems getting the question onto the system. It's there now and I will see if they think a Bugzilla report is required or if it is a Fedora build problem. I'll post back here when I find out.

libreoffice suggested that I download the newest version (6.1.3.2) to replace Fedora's version 6.0.6.2. For most of my odt files this worked and no more error notices. One file is an exception and I suspect that there may be an internal problem with it, although libreoffice offfers no guidance as to where or what is causing the error.

I guess that eventually Fedora will update to the current level and the problem will go away ;-(

Thanks again.

I have further information now for anyone who may encounter this in the future. A file that exports properly and contains graphics boxes (.eps format in my case) will ALWAYS give a transparency error if the containing box is moved or resized. This can occur if any sentence above the box location rolls to a new line, or if the box is manually repositioned. I have managed to do this many times as a test and it occurs in both the Fedora version (6.0.6.2-3fc28) and the latest Libreoffice version (6.1.3.2).

I am exploring how to open a Libreoffice Bugzilla report on it.
