Once my screen is locked, I am not able to unlock screen and get to the login form. I can see the animation asking me to click and drag from bottom but when I do that, nothing happens. However I am able to click on the top right menu - (The one that shows wifi/volume).

Details: Fedora 29, Gnome, Desktop.

What I tried,

  1. I tried clicking Ctrl + Alt + F1. I got to the login screen and was able to login. But none of the windows appear and not able to get to the activities menu. I can see the notifications but not open any application. I had to reboot to use the computer.

  2. Install KDE. It worked fine. But prefer Gnome. And one day both GNOME and KDE disappeared and was presented with command-line login. (I suspect because I ran dnf update --allow-erasing. Because dnf suggested to do that.

Now after installing @gnome-desktop, I am still unable to 'Unlock screen' without rebooting.

Haven't you tried pressing Escape or just typing your password and hitting Enter on the lockscreen? Both works for me. From the way you've written your question it looks like you tried mouse input only.
