Software Updates and "poisoned" package

Hi!

I have downloaded and installed the Epson printer driver (epson-inkjet-printer-escpr v 1.6.33.xxx) from epson, and it is working fine.

The problem is that "Software" keeps offering to downgrade the epson driver package to 1.6.20.xxx.fc29 that does not work.

There is a number of problems here:

  • If I install updates, I have to go and reinstall manually the working driver every time.
  • I don't know how to use the UI to tell "Software", to skip that downgrade, I think it is not supported.
  • I have no clue where that package is coming from, I guess one of the non-free repos, but making a dnf search epson, does not show up the package from the command line.
  • I don't know how to tell fedora to skip that downgrade, perhaps with a dnf plugin? As I assume dnf is running under the hood.

What is the best way to skip an update (or downgrade) version with fedora?

If you execute this command :

dnf search epson-inkjet

result :

epson-inkjet-printer-escpr.x86_64 : Drivers for Epson inkjet printers

I you do :

dnf info epson-inkjet-printer-escpr

you can see where is come from? Repo : Fedora

How to Block this Package :

  1. Install Your Package
  2. Follow this Step -> how-do-i-make-the-software-updater-skipexclude-some-packages/

edit with your edit with sudo /etc/dnf/dnf.conf

and add something like this at the end of the file:

excludepkgs=epson-inkjet-printer-escpr

save it

  1. Upgrade your System.
