Linux 17 was installed on my computer and everything works fine except the sound. In fact, there is no sound at all. I never had this issue on Windows XP. I have small knowledge in computers (especially for Linux, having used Windows all my life) so I don't want to do anything foolish that could make things worst.

I've checked all the sounds parameters and they seems fine. I've tried headphone in the computer instead of speakers and nothing is change.

A computer without sounds is... unfortunate.

If anyone wants to help me please keep in mind that I am not familiar with linux and not very great with computers.

EDIT: I've tested my sound card with a thing called Phonon KDE configuration module and the CM8738 Stereo analogique works! there is sound coming out form the test! the second option 'audio interne stereo analogique' do not work. I've choose CM8738 as the amin chanel but still nothing on the internet. Why does it work on the test but nothing elsewhere?

That doesn't seem to work.

I've tried to listen youtube and daily motion video and also a radio station on the web but no sound whatsoever.

I've two sound card one HDA Intel and the other C-Media CMI8737. I've been to alsamixer v1.0.26 to see what is might be showing but I don"t really what to look for.

A test with phonon gives sounds with C-Media CMI8737 but nothing else.

There must be a way to enable the sound.. I am at a loss.

Try the steps listed on this page and see if they help:

If you're trying to play mp3 songs and stuff, you need to have rpmfusion set up and the codecs installed from there. Please comment and let us know.
