Hi, I have an Acer Aspire E1-572 notebook with Ethernet Broadcomm BCM57886 card. I use 3.10.6-200.fc19.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Aug 12 14:49:42 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux. The card is not working.

02:00.0 Network controller: Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 / AR9565 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)

I tried to load the Kernelmodule:

 insmod tg3.ko
 insmod: ERROR: could not insert module tg3.ko: Unknown symbol in module

Output of dmesg:

$ dmesg | grep tg3
[ 1358.133579] tg3: Unknown symbol ptp_clock_index (err 0)
[ 1358.133674] tg3: Unknown symbol ptp_clock_register (err 0)
[ 1358.133755] tg3: Unknown symbol ptp_clock_unregister (err 0)

Then i tried to compile the module with source (tg3-3.129d) from Broadcomm but i only get error messages and it stopped:
cc1: Einige Warnungen werden als Fehler behandelt
make[2]: *** [/home/xxxxx/Dokumente/tg3-3.129d/tg3.o] Fehler 1
make[1]: *** [_module_/home/xxxxx/Dokumente/tg3-3.129d] Fehler 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/kernels/3.10.6-200.fc19.x86_64'
make: *** [default] Fehler 2

Anyone a solution?

Thx Matthias

Try modprobe instead, it handles module dependencies. You might want to first check if the module is loaded already: lsmod | egrep tg. If the module is already loaded, and then you see errors in dmesg, that points to a bug.

The problem is that at booting the kernel doesn't recognize the card. i got no messages which module is in use.
