Okay I just got back home with my parents and my dad gave me a copy of Fedora 19 to put on my super old and out dated laptop. This is my FIRST TIME using Linux so i am totally lost. I cannot install flash. I have seen that is possible and I have been to page after page of instruction but each one of them seems to based on the idea that the person reading the instructions has a basic or intermediate knowledge of Linux. I have no knowledge... none.

My question is this... how do I install flash for use in Firefox? Once I get the basics down I am sure I will be okay in the future with similar problems but I would really like it if I could get this from start to finish step by step.

My apologies in advance for those who are willing to go through the trouble and the rest of you who can't be arsed to try, thank you anyway for reading this far.

I promise you i will be back to ask more question and I will most likely ask some questions twice in different ways without even realizing it.

You might also want to check out Autoten at http://autoten.co.uk/ because one of the things that it automates is installing Flash. And, remember, there's no need to pick one or the other, you can use both because each one does a few things the other doesn't. Good luck installing Flash, and I hope that you enjoy learning and using Linux.

See http://www.fedoraforum.org/?view=fedora_setup for some guides and links. The “Scripts” section includes the tools mentioned in other answers, plus some other options.

For a novice, AutoTen or Easy Life are good options, as they are graphical rather than command-line.

Very brave to start with Fedora, because it is not the most user friendly distro around. But that is another discussion. :)

The easiest way to get things done is by installing Fedora Utils.

su -c "curl http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/satya164:/fedorautils/Fedora_19/home:satya164:fedorautils.repo -o /etc/yum.repos.d/fedorautils.repo && yum install fedorautils"

After installation a GUI version is available. You can also use the command line. With fedorautils --exec list you can see all available commands.

To install flash you use this command.

fedorautils --exec install_flash

Another very convenient one to start with are the RPM Fusion repositories.

fedorautils --exec rpmfusion_repos
