Why Handbrake doesn't work with my DVD? I rip it only for watching with family, no pirating. Have anyone used DVDAid on Mac? It seems very easy to use..

You can install handbrake using this repo. The maintainer, Simone Caronni, is an official fedora packager. It's always good to know where the software is coming from, before installing it on your machine.

I've used dvd::rip quite a bit to digitise my DVD collection. It's available in the rpmfusion repository.

How do you compare dvd::rip with HandBrake?

sudhirkhanger gravatar imagesudhirkhanger ( 2014-12-12 03:18:58 -0500 )edit

I've never used Handbrake and dvd::rip is available in the rpmfusion. I found it worked really well. I'm always wary about installing other repositories that might conflict, so I never had other options to try. Handbrake might be good - but I've no more DVDs to convert now.

@cobranegativo17.org is a very useful source and as trustworthy as any other 3rd party repo could be. It belongs to Simone Caronni who is an upstream Fedora maintainer like posted below by @DJon. I might give dvd::rip a try I have always used HandBrake as it does both ripping and transcoding.

@dpmmoezazen: I don't doubt it, was just saying I'm not the right person to be asking for a comparison, and when I did use extra repos I was always careful. Thing is they're both free - so you could compare the two without having to buy anything.

Load up the DVD you want to rip and start up VLC. Then under Media click on Convert / Save. The Open Media window will appear and you want to click on the Disc tab. Check DVD, make sure the disc device field points to the optical drive with the dvd, and hit Convert/Save.

Not picking up on you but it looks really bad when folks don't post detailed answers. Proper markdown, pictures, etc. make using Askbot like site much more helpful.

Hi, I used to rip DVD with HandBrake, but the output files are limited and some unknown errors just cofused me totally . Then I use this software : http://www.videoconverterfactory.com/... It can copy DVD to many formats and has the feature of enhancing DVD to SD and HD videos. Beyond that, I often add subtitles with this program and even clip videos. You can try it. Cheers!
