please how can I play mp3 streams in fedora 22 by using rhythmbox? I don't want to install hundreds of packages or enable/add too many repositories, please just mp3 at the moment. Thanks

  1. Add RPM Fusion's free repository, see http://rpmfusion.org/Configuration
  2. Install the package gstreamer1-plugins-ugly:

    $ sudo dnf install gstreamer1-plugins-ugly

You do understand, don't you, that F 22 isn't even in beta yet. This forum is for supported versions, and at the moment, that's F20 and F21.

No, you're getting answers, and they might be of help to somebody else. I just wanted to remind you that how much help we can give to somebody using an alpha or beta version is very, very limited. Have you tried using rpmfusion yet?

I added rpmfusion by following the instructions on their website referring to Rawhide (there's no f22, only 20 & 21)... so after I click the link provided firefox suggest me to open it with gnome-software which actually let me add it. Then I run "sudo dnf install gstreamer1-plugins-ugly" but I get the following errors:

also yumex give errors: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: rpmfusion-free/22/x86_64

You can try starting 'yumex -n' from a command line and deselecting the repositories causing problems and try again.

apparently the usually suggested method of adding mp3 support by adding the rpmfusion repositories doesn't work because those repositories are not ready yet for Fedora 22 (which still an "alpha" version). I didn't try the unsuggested method (by adding Fedy) because I don't like the way Fedy works (it's more difficult to track back possibly errors if something goes wrong). By the way Fedora 22 may go to "beta" stage soon.. I enjoyed it so far (except the obvios "mp3 problem") because gnome 3.16 looks really polished and nicely crafted. Anyway here are the rpmfusion instructions: http://rpmfusion.org/Configuration

Fedy isn't an alternative to my suggested solution. Fedy installs the very same package (including many more) from RPM Fusion, see https://github.com/satya164/fedy/blob/master/plugins/util/media_codecs.sh.

Welcome to ask.fedora. On the first page of questions is https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/ques... , which contains all of the information you'll need. Alas, you will have to install some new repos and software, but that's because Fedora itself doesn't provide what you'll need. Good luck, and I hope this works as well for you as it normally does.
