fedora 21 hangs on changing RAM

I am running Fedora 21 on Acer Aspire 5740 1.8 GHz core i3 3GB RAM. One RAM slot has 1GB and other one 2GB RAM. I change any one of the slots with a 4GB RAM and then restart. The OS starts normally but after about 5 second it hangs. Sometimes after starting it reboots automatically. The same thing happens when I use only the single 4GB RAM and keep the other slot unused. When I go back to my usual configuration (1GB + 2GB) everything is back to normal. It doesn't seem to be a hardware issue. How can I analyse where things are going wrong?

The RAM was okay. However it was a RAM of different specification. It was a 1600 MHz RAM. My laptop needed a 1333 MHz RAM. Once that was used, everything worked perfectly.

Test the RAM, just because it's new doesn't mean it's good.

su
dnf install memtest86+
/usr/sbin/memtest-setup

reboot, you should have memtest boot option, select it and run the test for at least 4 hours (any errors = RMA).
