I am using the dolphin file manager and connect to a samba shared folder.eg: smb://192.168.1.1/data

Dolphin has got a file find utility using nepomuk which works fine on your local disks, but it does not work on smb shared folders. When a search is initiated, it starts looking for files on your local machine, and the smb network folder.

Is there a way to look for files on a smb share, using dolphin, or perhaps another tool?

I like dolphin however, and it would be great if the search utility can be fixed, or setup to work on it.

If I understand and remember how KDE & Nepomuk works, you should add your share to Nepomuk's settings (e.g. list of places it indexes)

As per suggestion, on Fedora 20, I had to add the text eg: "http://192.168.1.1" to the baloo config file. In F22+, the baloo file indexer seems to have this sorted out, however the baloo_file_extractor process consumes high CPU usage until it has to be killed for overheating the system.
