Since upgrading to fedora23 yesterday I don't get any sound output from my speakers or from my headphones.

Does anyone else have this issue? And have you found a fix for it?

Yes. The fix is to update to the latest kernel and reboot twice. Refer to https://lwn.net/Articles/663093/ and the linked reference for the reasons.

I'm now running 4.2.5-300.fc23.x86_64

I have rebooted many times but the issue still persists. However now im getting sound but only over HDMI, my speakers dont even seem to be detected.
