I recently noticed in my Fedora 23 Workstation (using Wayland) that whenever I drag and drop files in Nautilus, it now seems to copy the files instead of moving them, like in past releases and most any file manager.

Is this intentional behavior or a bug? Also, if it is intentional behavior, is there a way to revert this behavior? It is extremely non-productive and makes it difficult to manage files in the first place. I'm hoping it is just a bug.

Does anyone know for certain? Thanks.

It seems to be working fine on my machine. At least when moving files within the same device.

@ellipsis I'm using LVM, but it's still technically the same partition because all of this is happening in /home.

As i found out today, this is a bug in nautilus/nemo unfixed since 2015 :

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.c...

this happend today with Fedora 25. Restarting nautilus ended in a gnome crash, which fixed another problem, but that specific copy/move mode bug stayed.

In my experience, it copy's the files when moving from one device to another. It moves the file if you're just moving it within the same device (to another directory)

I didn't get an email about your answer, oops! I am moving files between the same device, e.g. ~/Downloads to ~/Pictures.

@jflory7 did you fix it? I'm experiencing the same problem, moving files between the same device (Fedora 23 - Wayland).

@elisa This probably should have been a comment instead of a new answer. :) Anyways, this appears to have fixed itself in an update at some point. I no longer have this issue as of about a couple weeks ago.
