How to enable earphoneheadset microphones?

asked 2015-12-15 04:34:57 -0500

I want to use a Smartphone headset. That are those with 4 metal rings at the 3.5mm connector.

If i attach it to the laptop, the speaker wents out, which is fine, but the mic does not get reconized. ACER labels the headset port as Kingston Jack, which, afaik, means exactly those smartphone headsets with 4 rings.

Has anyone and idea how to enable that mic ?

Fedora 23 is used on a ACER ASPIRE E5-571G

You might try using ALSA to test the microphone with some command line utilities to try to isolate the level at which the problem is occurring. If you can get an arecord test to work, for example, you'll know your mic is recognized by the kernel and ALSA, so the remaining issue must be GNOME or somesuch. Try following this procedure and see what you can determine. Let me know!

it find 2 cards, the HDMI one and the onboard PCH. Only one subdevice is registered for PCH, thats it.

You don't sound like you followed the test procedure we pointed to. Did you try using arecord and aplay to create a recording and listen to it?
