Welcome to ask.fedora! Yes, you can use the same swap drive for both because Linux doesn't expect anything in swap to survive a reboot. When you install Fedora, do a custom partitioning to make sure that Anaconda (the Fedora installation program) doesn't overwrite Mint and make sure that your current swap partition is properly selected. Please come back to let us know how everything worked out, and feel free to ask more Fedora-related questions as they come up.

...and let Anaconda use the swap partition as it is, do not tell Anaconda it should re-format it additionally. Otherwise the swap partition will get a new UUID and Linux Mint wont accept it anymore unless adapting the /etc/fstab of Linux Mint.

You can do that but you won't be able to use Hibernation in one Linux system, then boot the other system and be able to resume the fist one from hibernation. (Which probably you don't plan to do! Just in case..)

i tried doing it in a virtual machine and it didn't work .... in anaconda i couldn't manage to tell him to use the swap partition which is already there

@robert1826: so, you created a virtual harddrive and tried to place 2 or more GNU Linux on there? Or did you try to access your "physical" swap partition from your virtual machine? (the latter won't work). Please explain what exactly you were doing...

i was trying to make 2 linux distros (fedora and linux mint) share the swap partition on the virtual hard drive. first i installed linux mint with a root and a swap partitions leaving some space for a later fedora install .. then i installed fedora trying to persuade it to accept the swap partition which is already there in the virtual hard drive but it didn't work. i tried selecting the partition during installation but all options on the right were greyed out.
