Foolishly, I changed the grub.cfg in my vanilla Fedora 16 64-bit installation. I simply changed the menuentry lines to "Fedora" and "Fedora (Recovery Mode)". I always did it with grub legacy and never ran into any issues. After updating via yum and rebooting, GRUB2 quickly spits out an error on startup referencing menuentry and I can only boot Windows 7. GRUB2's command-line interpreter is rudimentary and I was unable to use it to recover the bootloader. Is there any easy way to fix this, or will I have to reinstall GRUB2/use a live CD?

Thank you!

DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE

It is automatically generated by grub2-mkconfig using templates from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub

1.- use a live-Cd/DVD and enter in recovery mode..

2.- chroot to your environment...

3.- see if you /etc/default/grub is equal to this :

GRUB_TIMEOUT=5
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR="Fedora"
GRUB_DEFAULT=saved
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="rd.lvm.lv=vg_vb/lv_swap rd.md=0 rd.dm=0 quiet SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun16 rhgb  KEYTABLE=uk rd.luks=0 LANG=en_US.UTF-8 rd.lvm.lv=vg_vb/lv_root"

4.- generate your grub.cfg again with this command:

sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

Comments

Note that rescue mode comes with the netinstall and installation images, not any live images. With a live image the chroot must be set up manually.
