I want to get rid of tracker. How do I safely remove it (i.e. tracker, tracker-needle, tracker-preferences)?

When I do

dnf remove tracker-1.6.1-1.fc23.x86_64

dnf lists a ton of other dependency-packages to be removed (e.g. qemu-* etc.) which I definitely want to keep.

Any advice appreciated.. thx.

you may add "clean_requirements_on_remove=false" on /etc/dnf/dnf.conf , before do:

dnf remove tracker-1.6.1-1.fc23.x86_64

yeah , I use KDE , a few packages will gone like nautilus , but hopefully I do not miss it.

to list all packages that requires tracker you may do :

dnf repoquery --whatrequires tracker --alldeps --qf "%{sourcerpm} %{arch} %{repoid}" | grep x86_64

well actually this will still report that dependency-packages will be removed like "brasero", "gnome-boxes", etc.. so no, this did not the trick.

You can just uninstall it without removing the dependencies but you probably just want to disable it forever. Look at this topic to know more.

To remove rpm without dependencies: sudo rpm -e --nodeps tracker-1.6.1-1.fc23.x86_64
