After upgrading to Fedora 18 the software update tool is gone from the System Tools. While I can use yum, it doesn't show the changes. Can anybody tell me the name of GUI update tool binary and package, so that I can check it is installed?

Update: I use GNOME.

The update viewer is called gpk-update-viewer and the software installation/removal tool is called gpk-application.

Apper is the KDE frontend and gpk-application is the GNOME frontend for PackageKit.

Sure there are alternatives, but I assume you want that GNOME tool, that was there in Fedora 17 and before. It is embedded into "software" tool. Just hit the boss or super key, type software. When that window opens (the same window where you can install software), go to menu (click on a icon next to "Activities" top left corner) and there you find a menu entry "check for updates". I think this is the tool you are looking for.

I use yumex and it worked PERFECTLY Yum Extender 3.0.10 . laaunched it from a terminal.

yumex & the [&] returns the terminal control back to you
