Hi, I'm using "Fedora mate" spin, hence I have "parole" media player, but apparently it comes with obsoletely no codecs installed, how to install 'em?

Please don't suggest that I click "install" in the msgbox that appears when opening a video of audio, because nothing happens, also don't suggest that I visit the howto, becaust it won't work.

Hi, I used rpmfusion official website to download a package that automatically adds the repo, then I installed VLC and it works fine :)

respectfully & thanks

you can install ffmpegthumbnailer.x86_64 or ffmpegthumbnailer.i686 for 32-bit to see videos thumbnails because vlc doesn't provide any thumbnails

Welcome to ask.fedora. There is an answer to that question that's been voted up 33 times because it is The Right Answer and contains everything you need to do. Have you tried it, and if so, what didn't work? You might find it easier to download and install the repositories directly from RPMFusion and installing the codecs with this command:

sudo dnf install \*gstreamer\*

This will bring in everything you're likely to need, along with any required dependencies. Please let us know how things work, and feel free to ask again if you need more assistance.

If the Sticky doesn't work for you, then provide a log... All can see your problem...

Open a terminal and copy/paste + ENTER each line...

1. dnf provides rpmfusion* | tee codecs.txt

2. echo 'INSTALLED PACKAGES' >> codecs.txt

3. echo '-------------------------------------' >> codecs.txt

4. rpm -q rpmfusion-free-release >> codecs.txt

5. rpm -q rpmfusion-nonfree-release >> codecs.txt

6. rpm -q gstreamer1-plugins-bad-freeworld >> codecs.txt

7. rpm -q gstreamer1-plugins-ugly >> codecs.txt

Put here the complete log "codecs.txt"

I don't think that the last line does what you want. You don't need to use >> to send things to tee and what you wrote will overwrite everything else. If you actually need/want to see the contents of that last command use this:

rpm -q gstreamer1-plugins-ugly | tee -a codecs.txt

as that will append the output to the existing file.

Not important, as long as somebody caught it.
