Encrypted DVD playback?

What is the process to install encrypted DVD decoder. I installed libdvdcss and libdvdcss2 from http://packages.atrpms.net/dist/f17/libdvdcss/. Totem still says Could not read DVD. This may be because the DVD is encrypted and a DVD decryption library is not installed. resindvdsrc.c(1143): rsn_dvdsrc_step (): /GstPlayBin2:play/GstURIDecodeBin:uridecodebin0/RsnDvdBin:source/resinDvdSrc:dvdsrc:

I would prefer a solution that only uses yum because that is the only command that I can execute in this computer (which I don't administer). I also tried to install VLC via rpms but I ran into a dependency problem.

mmm atrpms? This was a bad idea (You probably need to uninstall them.), they usually give poblem between versions, because is generic repository. You had to activate and install rpmfusion and livna repositories; livna has this package. I do not know the type of privileges you have, if you use "su" try the following, otherwise use sudo -S.

Howto install RPmfusion?

su

yum localinstall --nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm

How to install Livna?

su

yum -y localinstall http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release.rpm

How to install all codecs (includes libdvdcss)

yum -y update

yum -y install gstreamer-plugins-bad gstreamer-plugins-bad-free-extras gstreamer-plugins-bad-nonfree gstreamer-plugins-ugly gstreamer-ffmpeg ffmpeg mencoder ffmpeg2theora mplayer libdvdcss

The livna installation worked but not the rpmfusion one.

As of the last few weeks (including today), livna mirrors have not had F18 or newer RPMs, only F17 and earlier. No idea why.

Of course, the rpm fusion repo does not have the codecs for commercial dvd playback. It has other codecs to play restricted or patent encumbered media formats which Fedora is not licensed to ship with or they are not free and open source software.

What you needed was only the libdvdcss, for the encrypted dvd playback.
