hey guys, I run a ssd+hdd combo rig and i was wondering if any one would like to take the time to walk me through the process of changing my default app install directory and home folder off my ssd ( where i have installed fedora ) to my hdd. I am practically a novice user and hence you patience is requested

In linux a filesystem is an unique tree structure starting from the "root" / and it can span across multiple disks and partitions (even remote ones). If you're using LVM you can easily extend the filesystem over unused/free disks or partitions. It depends on how you partitioned your system. You can for instance move your /home to the hdd mounting it from your "root" fs on the ssd ( assuming no LVM).

You should probably keep your applications on the SSD.

@Tom Dworzanski i do understand the cevat but when the ssd is 64gig and the hard drive is 1tb it seems a bit logical to dump possible app's and other loads to the secondary :) cheers

@tek09 you really think you will ever have more than 64GB worth of OS and apps? Unless you're using a ton of huge programs, I doubt 64GB would not be enough for 99% of people. As for moving where apps are stored, the Linux filesystem does not put apps in one place like a MacOS, it disperses parts of apps throughout the file system in logical ways. Basically, all configuration is in one place, all libraries are in one place, all docs are in one place, all executables are in one place, etc. It may seem chaotic but the packaging system manages all the files well.
