Failed F14->F16 preupgrade, how do I go back to a functional desktop

Was using Fedora 14 64bit and decided to preupgrade to F16. After reboot, Anaconda failed to install a package of the ibus input method and exited. After a reboot, I can't boot any kernel (not the F16 one, neither any of the F14 ones) but instead it drops me in a maintenence shell (unfortunately I am not sure what I should do there). I checked the preupgrade Wiki, and I haven't noticed a fix for that. Either to finish the upgrade or roll black.

Not sure what infos I should include but I'll be glad to provide them if requested.

When upgrades go bad it is almost always easier to back up your data and perform a fresh install.

This page is very helpful, but hard to do any of that if you can not boot.

You could try booting to rescue mode and manually running those commands in a chroot.

See : http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/16/html/InstallationGuide/rescuemodedrivers.html
