2015-07-31 11:42:27 -0500 commented question How to make cron send emails?

@wolfv, for clarification, the only dilemma is cronic not mailing? How does cronic choose which mail is not spam? http://habilis.net/cronic/ mentions setting bash parameters: `#!/bin/bash

set -o errexit -o nounset -o xtrace` Could you fpaste your backup_script for easy reference?

2015-07-31 11:14:43 -0500 commented question Text visibility issue after enabling Global Dark Theme in Gnome F22

I have this problem too. One workaround is changing the Firefox theme to one that shows text.

2015-07-31 11:06:05 -0500 commented answer Logging in from screen saver lock, get new session?

Usually it is the Right Alt+ Right Ctrl for VMWare, yes? Don't worry about that being allocated to the virtual machine application: it is separated from global shortcuts.

2015-07-31 10:27:55 -0500 answered a question GPU Lockup (suspect nouveau)

Actually, suspect Chrome. During the time of the crash, chrome was active with pid 2745. Access chrome://flags in Chrome, check the GPU settings (blacklist, whitelist, forced settings, acceleration, webGL etc.). Tweak settings to see how they affect behaviour. If other applications trigger the crash, fpaste the corresponding logs.

2015-07-30 10:30:16 -0500 commented question FirewallD/OpenVPN

My networking knowledge is kindergarten. Let me try anyway.

You apply masquerading (NAT) and it works. That means the interface IP may be incorrect. I guess you created a switch instead of a bridge: the interfaces are not interactive.

2015-07-30 09:54:15 -0500 commented question How to make cron send emails?

@wolfv, you should not do this while fighting sleep! So, you had removed sendmail? Backups work, but no email? instead of having cron do the email, have the script mail the log file.

2015-07-30 00:33:35 -0500 commented question How to make cron send emails?

@wolfv, you did not need sendmail. Symlink msmtp to sendmail. That way a sendmail executable appears to exist. Msmtp will be used instead.
ln -s $(which msmtp) /usr/bin/sendmail would do it.

2015-07-29 22:27:48 -0500 commented question How to make cron send emails?

@wolfv, if you can set sendmail then the symlink may be unnecessary. Otherwise, ln -s $(which msmtp) /usr/bin/sendmail .

2015-07-29 22:21:07 -0500 commented answer How do i change permissions as only user and administrator when presented with "you are not the owner, so you cannot change these permissions".

Editing files as root in GUI is very dangerous. You could risk launching Files as root with sudo nautilus. This could lead to destructive complications. You need to think about everything before you do it.

2015-07-29 22:00:57 -0500 commented question Broken audio connections using Intel HD

TL;DR start with pactl list sinks short and pactl list cards
No disrespect or cause for disagreements meant, but alsa interfacing is too low level and old-school for present code. Everything goes through alsa framework by default, but pulseaudio is used by default. Fix pulseaudio instead. [Lower case because though the work of the authors and value of the applications are unquestionable, in the long run it is just another linux utensil.]

2015-07-29 21:23:28 -0500 commented question How to make cron send emails?

This one. Nevermind though. Thinking about it, it would just be more confusing. Stick with what you know. However, @aeperezt is correct. Crontab requires a recognized MTA, most likely sendmail. Since msmtp is sendmail-like, you could probably make a symlink in the name of sendmail. Looking at Archwiki, msmtp-mta is mentioned. It contains only a symlink. I suspect a symlink to msmtp.

2015-07-29 20:26:55 -0500 commented question How to make cron send emails?

Could have the executed script do it.

2015-07-29 20:23:38 -0500 commented question How to make cron send emails?

@wolfv, I think a systemd.timer file would be better. It would be simpler to construct. Is that question still active where you wanted to know how to do a crontab? There is just the question of how to mail with a .timer.

2015-07-29 17:23:49 -0500 answered a question Is the workstation-configuration of the firewall "secure"?

A good Linux setup does not spin up servers behind arbitrary ports. Usually, you need only worry about a port if there are daemons listening through it. With Chrome and other browsers doing all kinds of extra stuff other than just browsing, you may have to set up IDS.

2015-07-29 17:11:29 -0500 commented question How to make cron send emails?

@wolfv, who owns the crontab?

2015-07-29 16:19:07 -0500 answered a question Wired connection fails due Camput Network?

@Cyghost, apologies. I am multitasking repairs and support. Good to see the guys have helped you fix it 😁

The settings on one interface is designed to be isolated from other interface. Routing or global settings through a daemon or teaming are what I understand would affect multiple interface.

Anyhow, as @sideburns stated, that default route is faulty.

2015-07-29 15:20:06 -0500 commented question Wired connection fails due Camput Network?

@Cyghost, oh, I saw the new posts late. Was researching your issue with what I knew so far. If Windows 7 works, get the information from ifconfig /all. Also, look at the results from route print. I have not used Windows in-depth in years!

2015-07-29 15:14:37 -0500 commented question Wired connection fails due Camput Network?

@Cyghost, you should do a mapping. Find a system with a connection and probably do a check with http://icanhaztrace.com . Also, ip neigh could show if there are link-local connection active (zeroconf-able systems).

Campuses are commonly behind proxy. Were proxy settings applied?

2015-07-29 14:06:04 -0500 answered a question Review Applied Updates in GNOME's Software App

man dnf shows one solution: sudo dnf history info last. That shows all the transactions from the latest update. You could delve further by tweaking the history options and specs.

2015-07-29 13:12:27 -0500 commented answer Software Update Network Usage

@Berend, yes, do the above and if dnf makecache fails, dnf clean metadata. Metadata will be reconstructed and dnf will be good to go. Don't use Software for updates. It interrupts dnf: autoremove malfunctions.

2015-07-26 14:38:17 -0500 commented question gdm lock when switching between users

@jondkent, command line works without issue? You could do a run-through with sealert for some problem with gdmflexiserver. I notice sometimes it throws errors because of authorization and permission issues. Run gdmflexiserver directly from a terminal to see if it is the same behaviour.

2015-07-25 12:46:37 -0500 answered a question Will dnf remove kernel underneath it self?

man dnf.conf says you use exclude= to prevent modification by dnf. Using @randomuser answer, slightly modified, rpm -q kernel; add the full name of kernel to the list. (Checked the rpmquery string: it did nothing.)

2015-07-25 12:32:20 -0500 commented question how to exit desktop

What is your configuration? Do you have multiple accounts? Is your system a server for the kids using VNC? Are you using GNOME and another desktop environment?

2015-07-25 12:25:54 -0500 commented question What program can you use in Fedora in order to play a media file that is in a restricted format?

@Ervin-Reloaded, what do you mean uninstall? The only thing that is designed to be hard to remove in linux is fuse- or boot-related, in my opinion.

2015-07-25 12:19:23 -0500 commented question set up sSMTP on Fedora 20

@wolfv, do not edit /etc/msmtprc. No need to leave your user account. No need for root privilege. You need a ~/.msmtprc

2015-07-24 11:33:22 -0500 commented question Fedora 22 DNF timeout

@polywogsys, I am quite new to Fedora. Haven't used an RPM tool since Mandrake's urpmi. But, dnf is always trying to connect in order to keep metadata fresh. Unless they are doing strict whitelisting, your company firewall is dumb. If they allow any <1024 to go through but do not allow any >9000, they are being lazy.

dnf has proxy options for such cases. man dnf.plugin.config-manager
