2017-02-18 08:30:37 -0500 commented answer How to find a minimal-install of Fedora 25

FYI I've found with the server minimal install you need to groupinstall hardware-support to get wireless support.

2017-02-01 10:04:36 -0500 commented question "Failed to synchronize cache" for all repositories

Thanks @florian but I ended up reinstalling. I going to start doing lvm snapshots of the root filesystem so I can roll back if something like this happens in the future.

I found @hardware-support was needed to get Intel wireless working.

Edited my question to show the contents of fedora.repo. Thanks.

2017-01-20 12:10:34 -0500 commented question "Failed to synchronize cache" for all repositories

No, as I say saying, networking is fine. The Chrome repo syncs but none of the others.

2017-01-18 19:26:11 -0500 asked a question "Failed to synchronize cache" for all repositories

Fedora 25 hung and I had to hard power off. After powering up dnf will not sync any of my repositories except for Chrome. Networking is fine for other programs. I wonder if some file is corrupted.

sudo dnf update --refresh

2016-12-30 12:12:37 -0500 answered a question python and Yum not runnig due to multiple installations of python

The recommended way to set the Python version is to put "#! /usr/bin/env <pyversion>" at the top of the script that runs your application, e.g.

#! /usr/bin/env python3

This way the script will run using the version you want regardless of the system default.

2016-12-18 15:55:40 -0500 answered a question Gvim under Wayland

Answering my own question: a search of the Vim github site and the development mailing list indicates no Wayland support is being planned at this time.

2016-12-18 15:54:22 -0500 commented question Gvim under Wayland

@Brenton No, I am not sure and was only presuming it would work on account of the GTK3 support. I checked the bug tracker and searched the dev mailing list and only see a few discussions about GTK3 support and nothing about Wayland so it looks like that's not even being planned at this point! I'll turn this into an answer, thanks.

2016-12-18 12:26:22 -0500 commented question Nvidia Card on Fedora 25

I've read that the RPM Fusion driver a better choice than the one direct from Nvidia which isn't officially supported on Fedora 25: http://negativo17.org/nvidia-driver/

Also, little googling turns up these answers:

2016-12-17 19:32:41 -0500 asked a question Gvim under Wayland

Vim 8 with GTK3 support was released in September and is available in Fedora 25.

However, when I launch gvim it runs as an XWayland app. How do I get it to run native?

2016-12-01 16:30:18 -0500 commented question Can I rearrange my partitions including the system without losing all my data?

In the Disk app highlight the Free Space and click on the '+' icon. In the next window type in a name like Home and click Create. Moving your data into the new partition is a bit tricky. Just google 'fedora move home to new partition' for lots of help on doing that.

2016-12-01 16:07:00 -0500 answered a question Fedora 25 -What are the correct steps to install Python3.5.2 as default?

Create a Python virtual environment ( https://docs.python.org/3/library/ven... ) and run vscode from within it. Python3.5.2 will be the default and python apps executed within VSCode will use it.

pyvenv-3.5 vscode.env # 'vscode.env' can be called anything.
source vscode.env/bin/activate
code #runs VSCode
deactivate #do this when done and after closing vscode

You might find an answer on one of these forums:

2016-11-24 19:09:35 -0500 answered a question Android support on Fedora

Android Studio isn't exactly be "supported" under Fedora since it's a closed-source, commercial product. Linux distros usually make supporting open source software their priority.

In any case, Android Studio, the SDK, and the tools have been updated sometime recently and no longer require 32 bit libraries which is maybe what you mean by "too fancy". You only need a couple of dependencies, bzip2-libs and something else: I forget right now

Download is here: https://developer.android.com/studio/... . Installation instructions for Fedora show up after you start the download.

2016-09-24 19:23:18 -0500 asked a question Burn audio CD with track titles

I want to burn audio CD's so that music player apps will show the name of the song instead of generic track1, track2 etc. I understand this feature is called "CD-Text" which Brasero claims to support. So I created a new audio project in Brasero and typed in the track titles but these were not burned onto the resulting CD.

I read people recommending k3b but this means installing dozens of KDE libraries on my Fedora 24 Gnome system.

Any other suggestions?

2016-09-24 12:02:11 -0500 asked a question CD Burning with Rhythmbox?

AFAICT, CD burning in Rhythmbox should be a right click option from a playlist or maybe with the tracks selected but I don't have either on version 3.4.1 on Fedora 23. There is a 'Duplicate CD' option when a source CD is in the drive and highlighted but it's disabled.

The CD burning plugin is enabled and I have a USB CD writer connected with a disk in it. Wodim -checkdrive finds it.

2016-09-24 05:27:28 -0500 marked best answer What is in the Workstation Minimal install?

What gets installed with the Fedora 22 Workstation 'Minimal' Install option? A command line, a minimal Gnome, or Gnome plus gnome apps only? There's no hint in the installation screen and the documentation doesn't say.

2016-08-02 10:25:54 -0500 commented answer Suggest a USB wireless adapter

Great suggestion, thanks. It is $70 + $6 shipping Canadian so not peanuts vs. @florian's suggstion for the crazy price of $2.50 US for a single band adapter. Since I don't need speed or range I'll try his suggestion first and yours if it doesn't work out.

2016-08-02 09:37:32 -0500 commented question Suggest a USB wireless adapter

Thanks. I've never ordered from AliExpress before but at that price why not.

You're right this is not a Fedora specific question but all the forums I'm aware of dedicated to one distro or another. I'd be interested if there are better choices out there.

2016-08-02 08:26:24 -0500 asked a question Suggest a USB wireless adapter

Please suggest an inexpensive USB wireless adapter. Dual band preferred but otherwise do not require high speeds, long range, or latest networking tech. So many models available on Best Buy and elsewhere it's overwhelming.

I'm in Canada so please suggest models available here or in US vs. from Europe.
