2018-01-08 12:25:24 -0500 asked a question how to disable gnome shell animations at fedora 27?

I was trying to disable them via

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface enable-animations false

but it didn't work out.

2018-01-03 06:32:19 -0500 asked a question why does schroot fail to end a session?
[foo@localhost ~]$ schroot -c devel
(devel)foo@localhost:~$ logout
E: 10mount: umount: /var/lib/schroot/mount/devel-a7e97ec6-971f-4846-af1f-c603787c83de/tmp: not mounted.
E: devel-a7e97ec6-971f-4846-af1f-c603787c83de: Chroot setup failed: stage=setup-stop
[foo@localhost ~]$ schroot -l --all-sessions
session:devel-f08d6c3a-e511-4fcd-8e6e-e7bc71bab0e7
[foo@localhost ~]$ schroot -e --all-sessions
[foo@localhost ~]$ schroot -l --all-sessions
[foo@localhost ~]$

before logout this directory actually was mounted! after logout it's not mounted anymore and the session still exists since the error probably canceled the closing process. how to fix this? my current workaround is to end all sessions after logout.

here's the chroot definition in /etc/schroot/schroot.conf:

[devel]
description=devel schroot
type=directory
directory=/home/foo/devel
users=foo

2017-02-22 17:01:53 -0500 asked a question Why I don't receive email notifications?

Hi, although I subscripted instantly notifications for question asked by me and supplied an email address in my profile I don't receive notifications via email. What's the reason for that?

2017-02-22 17:01:46 -0500 commented answer How to restore backlight brightness automatically?

Thanks for your answer but as mentioned above I already know how to do it this way. I'm looking for the reason why systemd fails to do it right. As far as I know the related service is based on a udev rule in /lib/udev/rules.d/99-systemd.rules:

SUBSYSTEM=="backlight", TAG+="systemd", IMPORT{builtin}="path_id", ENV{SYSTEMD_WANTS}+="systemd-backlight@backlight:$name.service"

Maybe this rule is just broken or incomplete?

2017-02-19 09:41:53 -0500 asked a question How to restore backlight brightness automatically?

Hi, I realized that on my laptop the backlight brightness gets properly saved here:

/var/lib/systemd/backlight/pci-0000:00:02.0:backlight:intel_backlight

But it doesn't get restored after reboot. Here's the status of the related service:

$ systemctl status systemd-backlight@backlight:intel_backlight.service
● systemd-backlight@backlight:intel_backlight.service - Load/Save Screen Backlight Brightness of backlight:intel_backlight
   Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/systemd-backlight@.service; static; vendor preset: disabled)
   Active: active (exited) since So 2017-02-19 11:43:07 CET; 14min ago
     Docs: man:systemd-backlight@.service(8)
  Process: 671 ExecStart=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd-backlight load %i (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
 Main PID: 671 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)

Sure, I could copy the stored brightness to

/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness

by myself, but I would like my OS to do this.

Any ideas?

2016-12-31 04:49:46 -0500 commented question How to force tracker re-indexing?

Using tracker extract <mp3 file> I get all the required informations. But somehow they are not part of the index tracker info <mp3 file>

2016-12-30 15:42:39 -0500 commented question How to force tracker re-indexing?

I forced it like this:

$ tracker reset -r
$ tracker daemon -s

But for many mp3s the resulting tracker index still doesn't contain required informations like song title, artist and album. So they don't appear in gnome-music :/

2016-12-30 10:07:20 -0500 asked a question How to force tracker re-indexing?

Hi, I need tracker index for gnome-music. Currently the index is broken since it was built before I installed the mp3 codec. So I tried but failed to force re-indexing:

$ tracker index -m audio/mpeg

(tracker index:32122): Tracker-CRITICAL **: Could not create proxy on the D-Bus session bus, Error calling StartServiceByName for org.freedesktop.Tracker1.Miner.Extract: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.TimedOut: Failed to activate service 'org.freedesktop.Tracker1.Miner.Extract': timed out (service_start_timeout=120000ms)
Reindexing mime types was successful

No, it wasn't successful. I checked this via tracker info for a test file.

Any ideas?

Since wifi isn't working on my machine with the fedora 24 live system I would like to keep my old fedora as a back up system when installing a new one. How can I achieve this?

2016-10-24 14:45:29 -0500 commented question Why does wifi testing for fedora 24 LiveOS fail?

Well, lsmod tells me that it is loaded and I assume that I could not see available wifi networks if it wouldn't be.

The required module rtl8723be is part of the mainline linux kernel.

Hi, I tested wifi for Fedora 24 workstation life system and it failed. I was able to select the right network and typed in the right password but after pressing the connection button nothing happens. No connection, no error message, nothing. Wifi is working fine with Fedora 22 on the same machine (Lenovo Yoga 2). Any ideas?

2015-03-27 12:45:04 -0500 marked best answer Win.Adware.Somoto in google chrome config files?

Hi,

I checked my home directory with ClamAV:

$clamscan -ri
/home/foo/.config/google-chrome/Default/File System/000/t/00/00000000: Win.Adware.Somoto FOUND

I doubted and checked the file type:

/home/foo/.config/google-chrome/Default/File System/000/t/00/00000000: PE32 executable (GUI) Intel 80386 (stripped to external PDB), for MS Windows, Nullsoft Installer self-extracting archive

So this file is really a windows executable!

Any ideas how this file end up in my google chrome config files and what to do with it?

Best regards, André
