  1. open gnome-disks.
  2. select the hard disk partition and click on the GEAR button and select EDIT MOUNT OPTIONS.
  3. Turn the AUTOMATIC MOUNT OPTIONS to off.
  4. Make sure MOUNT AT STARTUP and SHOW IN USER INTERFACE are on
  5. Customise other settings like IDENTIFY AS or FILESYSTEM TYPE ( you must know what you are doing as it edits the fstab )
  6. Click ok and reboot This trick works for partitions on the hard drive

2016-11-27 20:03:54 -0500 commented answer How to change font for login screen?

you can follow this link Extract Shell .gresource. Then open .css file from the extracted files, and find the line to change the font. Make sure the font you want to use is installed in system directory (/usr/share/fonts). then compile it into .gresource again or .zip and apply as theme.(gresource give full flexibility but can crash your system in case something goes wrong)

2016-11-03 08:55:44 -0500 answered a question How to change font for login screen?

Yes you can, but the procedure is very long. The default login screen is controlled by gdm. In order to customise any part of it you have to make a shell theme and compile it as "gnome-shell.gresource" and replace the system file with yours. That is why, when you change fonts they only get reflected in apps not in the Top Bar or in the Login Screen

2016-07-18 09:21:42 -0500 commented question can't install fedora24 (or 23), anaconda is very busy but never displays anything

it is better to un-mount all partitions before running the installer. Did you verify md5sum ? And Why don't you choose "test this media" in the live boot options and check if it was written properly to USB. P.S. if you're using a CD/DVD, then it takes a lot of time when compared to a USB

2016-07-18 09:21:41 -0500 answered a question fedora does not appear on grub

When you run the GRUB updater (example: update-grub) mount the fedora partition in your file manager (/dev/sda1). Then run the updater script in terminal. It is

sudo update-grub

for ubuntu based distros and

sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

for fedora based distros

2015-01-24 08:48:34 -0500 answered a question how do i install fedora 21 along with windows 8.1 on same pc with existing partitions in the hard disk

Any hard drive has the capacity to hold only 4 primary partitions. Fedora needs one partition with ext4 type partitioning atleast 5 GB in / . if you still have space put a /home and also a swap partition. all these can be done in gparted

2014-11-28 20:39:38 -0500 answered a question Problem with boot

All the drives you want to mount ( / or /home etc.,) are present in /etc/fstab. Try editing that file and

  1. delete the entry of the partition you removed
  2. or comment it with # ( this step is recommended , in case you don't do anything stupid)

save the file and run

sudo dracut -f

reboot. now you must be good P.S. please dont delete fedora partitions from other OS. because this is the reason hy your facing the problem

2014-11-28 20:25:51 -0500 answered a question fedora 20 boot hang

During the boot process Fedora checks all the filsystems to make sure if tis safe to boot. because your removable hard drive is in /etc/fstab , and fedora can't find it ; it simply waits. but eventually it has to boot after 7 mins. so, try removing the entry in /etc/fstab or disable filesystem check during boot

sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

2014-11-23 08:14:59 -0500 answered a question What is the difference between `yum install` and `yum localinstall`?
  1. sudo yum install <package name=""> basically searches the package in the repositories , download them along with dependencies and installes it.</package>
  2. sudo yum localinstall <package name="">.rpm basically searches the package in the working directory of terminal ( which is your /home by default ) and solves the dependencies and downloads dependencies and install them.</package>

we use yum install if the package is available in repositories. ( like sudo yum install vlc ) whereas we use we use yum localinstall for packages that are not in the repositories and so we have downloaded them from the internet ( like sudo yum localinstall skype.rpm ; skype.rpm downloaded form skype.com )

2014-11-23 07:27:20 -0500 answered a question Can someone please help me with gnome-shell-extensions?

For gnome shell extensions to be installed : the website must detect a running copy of gnome on your Computer. if you are ussing Firefox then there is a message that says " no running copy of gnome detected ". you just need to unblock the extension. then you can see all the switches for the extension when you open them. Sometimes when the page is not properly loaded because of slow internet , the switches may not get loaded, so try reloading the page

2014-11-23 07:15:30 -0500 answered a question Newbie to linux, Problems installing softwares

the installation process is in a queue because the software centre in fedora is by default configured to check for updates automatically. that is why , when you try to install a package it simply puts it in the queue. you can get rid of it by simply killing the process from 'system monitor'. Alternatively I use YUMEX (software installer ) over Gnome software because it shows a lot of detail of whats actually going on ( like size of download , dependencies , progress .....) to get it :

sudo yum install yumex -y

if you want to turn off automatic updates you have to use dconf-editor

  • you can install wget from yumex
  • but you have to download Chrome.rpm and open it with yumex. that'll do the magic

  1. make sure the free space is in seperate drive. and then you can format it as ext4 file system to use during installation
  2. before starting the live boot go to troubleshooting and select "check live media" to check your pendrive for errors.

2014-01-31 06:20:10 -0500 answered a question Three entries exist at the bootloader menu. Which one to boot ?

if you haven't tweaked with the /etc/default/grub file then your preference should be the default entry. if you have some problems with the default you can go to the below entry ( it is the one which has kernel before update)

i had the same problem with acer aspire too. simply go to /etc/default/grub.cfg as root in the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX= (............) paste these lines in the end , within the inverted commas

quiet splash pcie_aspm=force acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor

and run grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
