Cannot logon after update to kernel-4.8.16-300.fc25.x86_64

Following update of kernel, kernel-core, kernel-devel and kernel-modules to 4.8.16-300 and rebooting, system hangs when time to logon with white screen and Opps! with sad face :(

I have a GeForce GT 740 GPU with admod-nivia-375.26-1.fc35.x8664, xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-375.26.6.fc25.x8664 and xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs x86_64 and i686 from RPMfusion installed before the update from kernel-4.8.15-300 and all worked fine before update, and all works fine when booting into kernel-4.8.15-300 after update.

Booting into 4.8.16-300 takes longer than when booting into 4.8.15-300 because akmod-nvidia is compiling new driver, but then screen flashes a few times then error screen comes up. It's as if kmod-nvidia is not compiling, however, running "dnf list installed | grep nvidia" shows that kmod-nvidia-4.8.16-300 is present (as well as kmod-nvidia-4.8.15-300).

Any thoughts?

If I remember correctly, I had to reinstall the NVidia proprietary driver from scratch after the last kernel upgrade. Is you system hanging after you enter your password to login or before it loads the login screen? You can try pressing ctrl + alt + F3 to get to a terminal, then run sudo dnf remove akmod-nvidia, and reboot. It will switch you back to the nouveau driver, then if it boots properly you can reinstall akmod-nvidia and see if you can then boot up.

F25 is so broken. I see 3 posts a day about Fedora not booting after kernel update. Happens to me also. I just use the original kernal from the original install and do dnf -x kernel* update. For some reason the devs don't care. Come back tomorrow and see more posts about Fedora not booting after kernel updates...
