Howto install mysql in fedora 17

i have downloaded and extracted a zip file to install mysql. please help me with step by step instructions to install mysql in fedora

You don't even need to add a third party repository, as suggested in hhlp's link. Fedora packages MySQL already. To install MySQL server, use the command

yum install mysql-server

Then set up the password using the included script:

mysqlsecureinstallation

Then, enable and start the service:

systemctl enable mysqld.service

systemctl start mysqld.service

Fedora is a packaged distribution. Software you install on it should come either from the Fedora repositories, or as packages from trusted third party repositories.

mysql is in the fedora repo you don't need to do extra things to install it just follow this wonderfull guide:

Install MySQL Database 5.5.28 on Fedora 17/16/15/14/13/12, CentOS 6.3/5.8, Red Hat (RHEL) 6.3/5.8
