Some GTK 3 themes fail to run

I have tried to install GTK themes as well as window themes and I get problems in both cases depending on the various themes available.

I tried to install Zukitwo, Boomrang and Elementary.

To do so I copied the theme in ~/.themes and /usr/share/themes, and then selected the themes in gnome-tweak-tool both as GTK themes and Window themes. In some cases (Zukitwo and Elementary) the window theme works but not the Gtk one, and in the case of Boomrang it is the window theme that fails, whilst Gtk works.

How can I successfully install any of those themes?

You need to install the Unico theme engine:

# yum install gtk-unico-engine

  1. I couldn't find this package with yum search unico and 2. installing gtk-unico-engine did not make the Boomerang window theme work, even after reboot.

In my system I have to restart the shell to be able to change window themes: Alt+F2, type r and then type enter. This way you restart gnome shell. The other themes work fine?

Yes I did try to restart the shell, I even tried rebooting. When the window decoration fails it falls back to some old-looking style (AgingGorilla I believe).

Weird... the Boomerang theme works fine for me in F16... maybe if you download it again?

I have installed bunch of GNOME 3 themes but none of them is showing up in gnome-tweak-tool. Why is this broken?

yum install zukitwo-gtk3-theme adwaita-gtk3-theme albatross-gtk3-theme bluebird-gtk3-theme egtk-gtk3-theme greybird-gtk3-theme light-gtk3-theme zukini-gtk3-theme zukiwi-gtk3-theme

I have the exact same problem in F19. I have installed themes, through yum. Clearly the packages have installed folders in /usr/share/themes, right alongside the default Adwaita theme. However, none of the gtk+ themes are available in gnome-tweak-tool. They simply do not appear in the menu.

Also, you can install Dconf-editor and make the changes here, under Org -> GTK.

Just install Gnome 3 themes and everything works:

yum install gnome-shell-theme*
