Seeking Software Recomendations

Loving Linux and in particular Fedora. Most of the windows programs I had been using, I was able to find better open source programs to use. One exception, so far I have not found accounting software, comparable to QB. To avoid trade or copyright concerns, I just refer to it as QB. I have used QB for several years, even working as beta tester for the parent company. I like the ease of use, and that I do not have to understand bookkeeping or be a CPA to get a decent profit and loss created. I need to find sometihing similar, and then windows would never darken my screen again. I would love for it to be open source, but I do understand that some software for Linux may have to be closed. Any recommendations would be welcome.

If you own "QB", you might be able to continue running it using Wine.

is a compatibility layer capable of running Windows applications on several POSIX-compliant operating systems, such as Linux, macOS, & BSD. Instead of simulating internal Windows logic like a virtual machine or emulator, Wine translates Windows API calls into POSIX calls on-the-fly, eliminating the performance and memory penalties of other methods and allowing you to cleanly integrate Windows applications into your desktop.

You can search for software compatibility in the Wine AppDB.

There are a few open source financial software programs that you might be able to adjust to using too. Feel free to give any of them a try and see if they suite you.

  • GnuCash
  • HomeBank
  • KMyMoney
  • Skrooge

I do use wine, but was looking for something native to linux. I did find out about Gnucash, so I have downloaded and installed it. Thanks for the information.
