Having akmod-nvidia-375.66-2.fc25.x86_64

I ran into exactly the same issue: an update to the installed nvidea kernel module made the graphics card and monitor recognition fail with 4.10.15. Only the driver was updated according to my dnf logs (not the kernel itself): https://paste.openttdcoop.org/pwx1o2q66 . I can still get proper graphics support with the setup as available for 4.10.14.

Running Nvidia 381.22 from nvidia.com , use dkms to manage kernel upgrades, no issues. Never have liked the akmod or rpm as they seem to far behind, versus what I can get straight from Nvidia. Granted the driver search shows older stuff, but you can always use this link and find the version you want to use. Hope this helps.

None. I let the installer run the xconfig update, and have had no issues. I did run nvidia-xconfig --cool-bits=12 to enable control of the fan and power settings.

I reinstalled the Nvidia drivers 381.22 from nvidia, But nvidia-settings is not working

chaitanyacix ( 2017-05-20 13:11:47 +0000 )edit

what specifically is the error when you run nvidia-settings? if you are doing it from command line, does it try to load the gui for it?

steveebey73742 ( 2017-05-20 16:31:48 +0000 )edit

display error. couldnot find display on the system nvidia-settings.desktop file not found

these annoying things were the reason I didnt installed the diver from the nvidia directly. It broke my system again .. I am reinstalling fedora 25 right now

remove anything to do with kmod or akmod, i have none of that, and therefore have no problems with my completely proprietary 381.22 from the link provided in my answer. I installed dkms, 32 bit compatibility mode, let it overwrite the installed 32bit files, and let it update the xconf file. if you run nvidia-settings as non-root user, you can not alter the xserver data file. you should not need to run nvidia-settings as root, but that could be a last resort. you mentinoed it is a laptop, so is there a built in video, or is the nvidia card the only one?

Each Time I start my laptop I need to do it manually using

akmods --force

then only it works

There's clearly something wrong here, although I don't know what as yet. Unless you're booting with a newly-installed kernel, akmod-nvidia should find that you have the proper kmod and exit; it should only produce a new kmod if there isn't one present. As a first step, please give us the results of systemctl status akmod-nvidia to make sure that it's properly enabled.

systemctl status akmod-nvidia

Unit akmod-nvidia.service could not be found.

yes, the problem is on the new kernel 4.10.15-200.fc25.x86_64 only

The link for the latest nvidia driver directory was very useful, at least I didnt enconter any problem with nvidia-installer. For the rest I just hope that these isuues will be solved by the fedora itself & with the cooperation with fedora community

Thanks
