Hi, does anyone know how to setup the fingerprint reader and use it to login?

NOTE: I am using Fedora 27 KDE with Asus Zenbook 3 (UX390UA).

Hi, to start using fingerprint reader to login there are basically three steps:

  1. Make sure your fingerprint reader is recognised and has a working driver.

Use lsusb and lsusb -t to find out reader's USB ID and used driver. It seems that somebody started tinkering with driver for your reader, but it's not there yet: https://lists.freedesktop.org/archive...

  2. Enrol (and verify) fingerprints.

For that purpose you can use fprintd-enroll (it'll also tell you if you don't have a working fingerprint reader), read man fprintd for details. I think in Gnome Settings there's a GUI for managing fingerprints, but one must (maybe) use device with touch screen or like Gnome 3 for it to make sense.

  3. Make sure your Desktop Manager supports and is configured to use fingerprint reader.

For me Cinnamon's slick-greeter was working well without any modifications, there's a bug for KDE's SDDM, but I think Fedora's default configuration should suffice.

Beside logging in, your fingerprint reader should also allow for authorising Polkit pop-ups and sessions in a terminal (it's working out of the box in Cinnamon, not sure how KDE is doing here).
