Hello friends,

I freshly installed fedora 27, and unfortunately I can't get Steam to run.

I followed that how-to: https://linuxconfig.org/installing-st...

Since I'm using proprietary nvidia drivers, I've installed the 32bit libs (install xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686) like it's stated in the howto. Afterwards, I installed steam from the rpmfusion repo. Now, if I try to launch Steam, I just get this output ins the console:

[max@fedorabox ~]$ steam
Setting up Steam content in /home/max/.local/share/Steam
Running Steam on fedora 27 64-bit
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically
Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(0)

and nothing happens. I googled somed similar issues, it could be that it's linked to 32bit libs, but I installed the required libs, so I just can't figure out what's the actual problem is. Am I missing something? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards, Max

when you say proprietary, do you mean from an rpm, or installed straight from nvidia? if the latter, do NOT install the xorg-X11-nvidia files, as they are NOT needed for the nvidia drivers. I run both steam and wine with no issues on 27, on a GTX 970 with 387.22 driver version. My steam came from the fedora main repository, but I have also had good lluck installing the one kept by negativo17 rpm.

Unfortunately, installing Steam from UnitedRPMs repository does nothing for me, same result. That's very unfortunate, since I like the current fedora version a lot, but without Steam it's not covering all of my needs.

Not to hijack Max's post but I am having the same issues with steam. I launch it and it does nothing. When I try to launch from terminal I get this:

[JC@monolith ~]$ steam
Repairing installation, linking /home/JC/.steam/steam to /home/JC/.local/share/Steam
Running Steam on fedora 27 64-bit
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically
Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(0)
/home/JC/.local/share/Steam/steam.sh: line 713: 5445 Segmentation fault (core dumped) $STEAM_DEBUGGER "$STEAMROOT/$STEAMEXEPATH" "$@"
/home/JC/.local/share/Steam/steam.sh: line 444: no match: ssfn*

If I find a solution on my own I'll come back and update you Max.

I uninstalled and tried installing with the UnitedRPMS repository like davidva mentioned he's using. Same issue.

Hi; mmm I have not test if the version in rpmfusion works in Fedora 27; but I am using the version in UnitedRPMs, and works great.

Enable UnitedRPMS repository Instructions here

dnf -y install steam

Now

Go to Games and click Steam (Native)
