How to Install Brother HL-L2300D Printer drivers

I was misled by this site: http://www.openprinting.org/printer/B... which states that the popular Brother HL-L2300D printer works "perfectly" on Linux, which isn't the case with Fedora 27 apparently. So I'm trying to install the proprietary driver from Brother, but am unable to follow their directions. Their driver install tool gives the following directions: http://support.brother.com/g/b/downlo...useuas&os=127&dlid=dlf006893000&flang=4&type3=625

When I get to Step6. Run the tool: Command: bash linux-brprinter-installer-..- Brother machine name e.g. bash linux-brprinter-installer-2.1.1-1 MFC-J880DW

I do not understand what "Brother machine name" refers to (model number, e.g., HL-L2300D in my case)?

More significantly, when I run that command with anything at all as the model number, I get the error "Is a directory" and nothing happens.

Can anyone help? Given that the printer model I'm referring to is one of the bestselling home laser printers on the market, I can't be the first to encounter this problem. Unfortunately most message boards I find simply badmouth the printer drivers without offering much help in stalling the proprietary drivers (which appear to be the only ones usable with this device.

Choise only the rpms...

Download the official drivers here

Download the drivers...

a) pkgver=3.2.0_1

b) wget -c http://download.brother.com/welcome/dlf101899/hll2300dcupswrapper-${pkgver//_/-}.i386.rpm

c) wget -c http://download.brother.com/welcome/dlf101898/hll2300dlpr-${pkgver//_/-}.i386.rpm

Now the installation

1) su

2) dnf -y install hll2300d*.rpm

3) echo "#! /opt/brother/Printers/HLL2300D/cupswrapper/brother_lpdwrapper_HLL2300D" > /usr/lib/cups/filter/brother_lpdwrapper_HLL2300D

4) cp -f /opt/brother/Printers/HLL2300D/cupswrapper/brother-HLL2300D-cups-en.ppd /usr/share/ppd/cupsfilters/

Thanks. I was able to install the individual rpms as you noted with the arrows. However, the terminal commends you listed didn't seem to do anything for me. I did also complete the "pre-required procedures" listed here: http://support.brother.com/g/s/id/lin...useu_as&redirect=on But, unfortunately, when I send print jobs to the printer, I get a notification "printing stopped" on my screen, and the printer itself does nothing.

The commands are important (3-4)!! because these conect and put the configuration to the printer... You need to install the printer (not only install the drivers)... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6n9ME...

Thanks so much! I did install the printer too, After dinking around a bit more based on your suggestions, it does now work. The key seems to be that when adding the printer I must select the "BrGenML1" driver and not the "Brother HL-L2300D for CUPS" driver -- that was not intuitive to me.

I just bought a new Brother laser printer and the exact model is not available in the printer list yet. I just picked one that was similar and it works perfectly. I didn't need to download any drivers from Brother. I probably will though, because I would like to use the scan button. However, that is not applicable to your case. I would suggest trying the Brother/HL-2240D driver and see if that works.

Thanks. I had tried selecting random other drivers from the available list, but hadn't yet tried HL-2240D. Unfortunately, when I send a print job using that driver a green light flashes briefly on the printer and my screen displays a "printing complete" notification, but nothing actually prints.
