When I press the "log out" button in the Gnome menu, it takes a long time (20 seconds, easily) for the dialog to appear where one chooses whether to log out, restart or shutdown.

I have no idea what causes this slow down. Does anyone experience this and / or have a solution for it?

Edit: the button I am referring to:

I don't have a solution, but I may have a way to find out what's happening: open a terminal and run top. Watch it for a little bit to get a feel for what's going on, and which programs are using most of your CPU. Then, with it still running, press the log out button and see if anything changes. If some program suddenly starts eating all of your CPU, that's your culprit and we can go from there.

Which Gnome are you using? The Gnome-shell logout dialog only has "Log Out" and "Cancel" buttons.
