fedora 27 multiple copies of mutter

asked 2018-01-15 15:03:43 -0500

My dnf listing for mutter returns

mutter.x8664 3.26.2-2.fc27 @updates mutter.i686 3.26.2-2.fc27 updates mutter-devel.i686 3.26.2-2.fc27 updates mutter-devel.x8664 3.26.2-2.fc27 updates mutter-tests.x86_64 3.26.2-2.fc27 updates

I know mutter was updated recently, should my workstation have all of the above?

Only mutter.x86_64 is installed.

The other packages are available and not installed.

mutter.x86_64 3.26.2-2.fc27 @updates
mutter.i686 3.26.2-2.fc27 updates
mutter-devel.i686 3.26.2-2.fc27 updates
mutter-devel.x8664 3.26.2-2.fc27 updates
mutter-tests.x86_64 3.26.2-2.fc27 updates

Run

dnf list installed 'mutter*'

to verify this.

Exactly,

Why mutter.i686 is offered is unclear. This is the 32 bit version. The devel packages is only when making new programs needing some mutter provided libraries.
