Hello, when right clicking on the top or bottom GNOME panel in Fedora 27 the panel menu does not appear. I am unsure how to enable this functionality ?

Background Infos - I am using Fedora 27 Workstation in Oracle VirtualBox installed on an Ubuntu based distro which is not a dual boot computer. Fedora 27 is in full screen mode, with mouse and keyboard integration enabled. Guest Additions are installed. Added are the following GNOME extensions - Applications Menu, Places Status Indicator, Window List. I have tried also without these extensions. Also installed is Gnome Tweaks, I have checked its settings. Also checked System settings, and was unable to find a setting that seems to be the one needed. I am following the book, "Linux Bible 9th Edition", and am at page 53 "Using the GNOME Panels" currently.

I happen to have the same book (it's a great resource!) so was able to check the information you're looking at.

The reason you don't get a context menu when you right-click on the panel is that Fedora 27 uses the Gnome 3 desktop. The section in the book you referred to is about the Gnome 2 desktop. The two desktop environments are quite different. In Gnome 3 there's no option to enable right-clicking on panels.

As you're using VirtualBox you could install the Mate spin of Fedora. Mate is an actively maintained fork of the Gnome 2 desktop environment: https://spins.fedoraproject.org/mate-... .

rkhff Thank You :) I had made my first build, just in VirtualBox, this past week and used Mate extended desktop environment, today I completed the Chapter using this. Now thanks to your answer I understand why it worked. I appreciate your help. It is slow booting in VirtualBox but here is the link of it - my first build I am enjoying the book too, and am able to go back to Fedora 27 for continuing on in Chapter 3 :)
