I have seen the same issue on a computer with Fedora 28.

Can you please try this:

  1. Open a terminal
  2. Run journalctl -b -1 to look at the syslog from last boot. Try -2 for the next older boot. Make sure you select the boot when your computer froze.
  3. Search for "heat" or "temperature" by typing /heat[Enter] or /temperature[Enter]
  4. If it shows something like "temperature above threshold" your CPU may be overheating.

If the hang goes away after less than 30 seconds, it's a known bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1575281

Also, when having a look at journalctl -b -1, please go to the end (press your keyboard's "End" key) and look at the log entries there. They may indicate what's wrong.

Check if you're not running out of RAM/swap. If you are, you'll notice disk LED blinking like crazy.

Just wanted to note that you can have journalctlopen directly to the end of the requested logs by passing the -e flag to it on the command line.
