opera icon missing after upgrade to f28

The icon for opera is missing from the app listing. It is replaced with a generic icon like rxvt.

Also, my speed dial is completely gone and so are my bookmarks. It might be related to the fontconfig issue I reported here https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/ques...

The speed dial items and bookmarks appear to be there because when I start typing in the url box it finds them, but they do not show, not in bookmarks, and not in the speed dial page. They both display as empty.

I have reinstalled and also removed and installed opera-stable and nothing changed. Opera-stable 54.0.2952.60 from the opera repo

Does anybody know how to fix it?

Ok, I fixed the icon issue by updating /usr/share/applications/opera.desktop

the Icon= line was blank for some reason. I pointed it at the icon at /usr/share/icons/hicolor/256x256/apps/opera.png

Still no explanation why speed dial and bookmarks are not displaying.

fixed the loss of bookmarks and speed dial by installing opera beta, copying contents of ~/.config/opera to ~/.config/opera-beta and going through the settings in opera-beta

I have no idea why beta works and regular opera I have been running does not.

Also, fontconfig errors are still occurring, visible when you start opera or opera-beta from a terminal

You should report this issue to Opera.

Thanks @Aeyoun. I have reported problems before on the opera forums, they are typically ignored. For instance some settings are not preserved across updates. It is still happening...

Thank you for the solution. I'm having the same problem after having recently installed some update.

However, I'm an absolute newbie in Fedora and am not sure how to go about implementing your solution. Could you please give a step-by-step on how to go about updating /usr/share/applications/opera.desktop ?

Thank you in advance.

When I tried sudo gedit, I recieved this error:

Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused

(gedit:1659): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

I solved it using this command:

xhost +si:localuser:root

Obtained this solution from here: link text
